Overview
RWG is well known for its expertise on the nature and powers of charter cities and the procedures for becoming a charter city or amending an existing charter. The firm’s lawyers have assisted many general law cities throughout California in considering whether to become a charter city, and we have prepared numerous draft charters. The Firm has also been engaged by existing charter cities who were considering amendments to their charters that range from amendments intended to address a specific problem or topic to substantial overhauls of older charters. In addition, the Firm has represented charter cities as City Attorney. Providing charter city advice requires not only a wide breadth of substantive public law expertise but a clear understanding of the needs and political dynamics of each community that we are representing.
